St George Start Local Project

Posted on: 22/07/2013

Pei Lei Wushu is participating on in the St George Bank “Start Local” project. We are seeking funding to purchase Professional Martial Arts mats. The use of martial arts mat during our Kung Fu training will improve safety especially for our junior students. Today, Christopher injured his left foot in training which would have been prevented with purchase of these mats.

We need your help next week to vote the Pei Lei Wushu Association number #1 on St George Bank Facebook Page. It took us a lot of effort to make it to the Top 60 of the national list. Help us reach the TOP on St George Facebook in August!  Voting will open on St George’s Facebook page on  29/7/13, so please make sure to follow St George and Pei Lei Wushu Association on Facebook to stay up-to-date and help us achieve our fundraising goals.

2012 Outstanding Athlete Award from the KWA

Stephen Heard has had an outstanding year and produced excellent results. As a traditional tai chi practioner, he competed in the 2012 World Traditional Wushu Championships in China and won two golds and one bronze medal. This followed on from his success at the 2012 Oceania Kung Fu Wushu Championships where he won two gold and one silver medal. With many years of experience, Stephen performs with grace and determination no matter what the circumstances.

Here’s what Steve had to say:

I originally started Tai Chi because I had a busy and stressful job and I thought Tai Chi would help keep my stress levels down. I soon realised how much Tai Chi helped me, in fact it changed my whole way of life. It made me a more calm and patient person and also made me feel fit and energetic and able to deal better with life’s up and downs. I am extremely passionate about Tai Chi and am looking forward to spending all my life improving myself as a practitioner and instructor.

Master Alice Dong is very proud of her student and hopes that Stephen will continue to practice Tai Chi for health as well as for his own improvement. We hope that he will serve as an inspiration for others who will also want to achieve such excellent results.

Achievements made at the 5th World Traditional Wushu Championships

Posted on: 01/12/2012

The 5th World Traditional Wushu Championships were staged at Huangshan, China from the November 8th – 10th 2012. The event attracted over 2800 competitors of 245 teams from 55 countries and regions. The Pei Lei Wushu school’s students were among those who attended, with 11 competitors and 3 observers travelling to China from Sydney, Australia. Master Alice Dong accompanied them and was the official team coach for Australia.

Our school’s results were as follows:
4 Gold Medals for individual events
6 Bronze medals for individual events
1 set of Bronze medals for a group event

This was a fantastic experience for everyone to see more of the competitors from all across the world and to gain more confidence in their own Wushu skills. One of our students, Brian Corless, has kindly written his own humorous account of the trip.

On the 2nd of September we participated in the 2012 Oceania Kung Fu/Wushu Championships with tremendous success from our students. There were nearly 180 competitors from Australia and New Zealand participating in events such as traditional wushu and sanda.

We had 39 students from the Pei Lei Wushu Association who competed in the wushu and tai chi events. In total we accomplished 25 Gold medals, 7 Silver medals and 6 Bronze medals. This is a fantastic achievement and we would like to congratulate all those who competed and thank anyone who came to help and spectate.
